Apparently because this newsgroup is no better or worse than a test newsgroup. However, if I failed to clean up the mess, that reflects a configuration decision on my ISP's part. Actually most NNTP servers are configured that way these days. (However, I can't really even guess what is going on in terms of cleaning things up without doing a somewhat tedious state reset.) If you don't want to see "dicks" and "blowhards", then you should use a killfile generously--and avoid mirrors. Probably also a good idea to avoid personal attack threads. However, in general, the newsgroups are full of trolls and such these days. I'm rather surprised it took you so long to notice. By the way, I predict that this post may not show up at first, though I won't repost this time, since it's apparently queuing somewhere. I'd guess there is some sort of problem between the primaries Zetton and Redking. Their secondary (smaller but long-retention) NNTP server, which apparently has no alias besides news2, is apparently unaffected. If you want any technical details, you can ask nicely and hope that I notice--which I probably won't. However, it's likely that I'll discuss it with the fellow who does their English support the next time we have lunch. We've been discussing NNTP issues quite a bit in our last few meetings.
