I don't give a fig about "unpresidential", or even know what it means 
for that matter. But I also don't see any comparison between these two 
examples.

A politician flying onto a carrier is a vain, ultra-expensive party 
political photo-op/advestizement, an invoice for which should have 
promptly been dispatched from the taxpayers to whoever the donors are 
paying for the pollies campaign, and at the very least an apology for 
wasting the public's hard earned money. A politician increasing taxes on 
whiskey on the other hand is simply an utter bastard from beyond the 
pale, and no apologies can or will suffice.
