食料を支配することで人民を支配するやり方は日本では江戸時代の封建社会の体制。
江戸時代、年貢米を収め、すべての米は領主が支配し管理されていた。

英米の場合、高蛋白源の牛肉やそれに類似するものが日本でいう米なのだ。

日本の場合、その支配のやり方は有効で、江戸幕府はおよそ300年にわたり
そのやり方で日本全体を支配し管理していた。
食料がなければ金などいくらあっても意味がないのだ。

実際、そのように食料を管理することで支配されていた日本社会では、
商人はいくら金を持っていても支配することができず、
結局は宵越しの銭を残さない観念がうまれ、
儲けた金は遊郭で一気にぱっと使ってしまうか、
公衆の面前でばら撒いて人がそれに群がるのを見て楽しむぐらいしか使い道がなかったのだ。
