No. That's only temporary. Shinji doesn't want that existence without
others. Being merged in the instrumentality, he decides he doesn't
like it, feeling that even though his individuality will lead to
betrayal and hurt like before, he still wants to have a life where
others coexist independently with him ("I want to see them again...)
