It makes him look like he was making a classic newbie mistake when using OE for posting two-byte languages, but I know he couldn't possibly do something like that (and he does have charset="iso-2022-jp" in his header), so it _has_ to be something in my new setup that's stripping out the two-byte characters. So you go and copy it with your (presumably) unmodified version of OE and the kanjiberrish survived intact.
