Go to travel.yahoo.com, type in your starting and destination airports
(KIX for Osaka, NRT for Tokyo), and select 'my dates are flexible'.
Right now there's a ticket from Nashville to Osaka for US$404; my guess
is there are similar fares available throughout the US. I dearly wish I
was in a position to take advantage of that deal.

If you don't need a rail pass that could be enough for a month,
depending on how much you want to eat, how much you want to drink, and
where you stay.
