Whether or not it's the true motive, it certainly will be something advertisers jump on, though a lot of the ads on JR West (at least the main line to/from Himeji) seem to be family or female oriented (lots of travel ads). As an aside, it was train advertising that sparked my interest in researching advertising in graduate school. John W.
