I have just read a brand new book about life in Japan. It's a great
read as well as opening my eyes to new places and a new way of looking
at Japanese culture. It also goes where other fear to tread as the
author isn't afraid to touch on sex and particularly the fears of
teenagers. There is also a confesssion about his own voyeurism. If this
all sounds smutty it isn't. The book is intelligent and insightful -
but is true to life rather than the woolly jumper writing of some
travel authors.
Gosh, I haven't mentioned the book itself: Extremes Contradictions in
Contemporary Japan and the writer is a chap called G M Thomas. I bought
it from amazon.co.uk where its recommended by them and is the Top Ten
of the hot-picks for Japan. Also recommended by amazon france as well,
and can be bought on amazon.co.jp
A google search threw up other sites selling it.
